Southern Railway Act Apprentice Recruitment 2026: Apply Online for 4,471 Posts
Southern Railway (SR), through the Office of the Chief Workshop Manager, Carriage & Wagon Works, Perambur, has released Notification No. 01/2026 (CPB/P1/98/Act/TP/Vol.XXI). Applications are invited from eligible candidates for engagement as Act Apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961, across various trades in Southern Railway divisions, workshops, and units.
Note: This engagement is purely for apprenticeship training and does not guarantee regular employment in Indian Railways.

Eligibility Criteria
Regional / Domicile Jurisdiction
Only candidates residing within the geographical jurisdiction of Southern Railway are eligible:
- States & UTs: Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep.
- Andhra Pradesh: SPSR Nellore and Chittoor districts only.
- Karnataka: Dakshina Kannada district only.
Educational Qualifications
- Fresher Category (Fitter / Painter / Welder):
- Passed Class 10th (Matriculation) under the 10+2 system with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
- Fresher Category (Medical Laboratory Technician):
- Passed Class 12th (10+2 system) with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
- Ex-ITI Category:
- Passed Class 10th (Matriculation) with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks (except for Electrician & Electronics Mechanic which require Science/Math subjects).
- National Trade Certificate (NTC) / ITI course in the relevant trade issued by NCVT / SCVT.
(Note: The minimum 50% aggregate in 10th standard is relaxed for SC/ST/PwBD candidates).
Age Limit (As on 28-08-2026)
- Minimum Age: 15 Years
- Maximum Age: 22 Years for regular trades | 24 Years for MLT trades
Upper Age Relaxations:
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years
- SC / ST: 5 years
- PwBD: 10 years
Monthly Stipend Structure
- Fresher (10th Std Pass): ₹8,200/- per month
- Fresher (12th Std Pass / MLT): ₹9,600/- per month
- Ex-ITI Candidates: ₹9,600/- per month
Application Fee
- General / OBC / EWS Candidates: ₹100/- (Non-refundable)
- SC / ST / PwBD / Female Candidates:Exempted (No Fee)
Selection Process
Selection will be strictly based on a Merit List generated without any written exam or interview:
- Fresher Trades: Marks obtained in Class 10th standard (converted out of 200).
- MLT Trades: Marks obtained in Class 12th standard (Physics, Chemistry, Biology converted out of 200).
- Ex-ITI Trades: Equal weightage to Class 10th marks (out of 100) and ITI trade marks (out of 100), totaling 200.
