The Department of Posts (India Post), Ministry of Communications, Government of India, has released the official notification for the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Engagement (Schedule-II, July-2026). India Post is inviting online applications to fill 23,757 tentative vacancies across various Circles and Divisions in India for the posts of Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak.

Vacancy Details & Role Profiles

India Post has announced a total of 23,757 vacancies distributed across various Circles.

1. Role Profiles

  • Branch Postmaster (BPM): Overall in-charge of a single-handed Branch Post Office (B.O.). Responsibilities include mail conveyance, delivery, IPPB operations, and marketing of postal products. Must arrange accommodation for the Branch Office and reside within the post village.
  • Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM): Assists the BPM in daily operations, postal stamp sales, doorstep deliveries, and IPPB transactions.
  • Dak Sevak: Engaged in Sub-Post Offices, Head Post Offices, Sorting Offices, or Mail Offices. Assists in handling mail/parcels, doorstep delivery, and administrative support.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Educational Qualification

  • Class 10th Standard Pass: Secondary School Examination (Class 10) pass certificate with passing marks in Mathematics and English from an recognized board.
  • Local Language: Candidate must have studied the prescribed local language of the applied Circle/State at least up to Class 10th standard.
  • Other Skills: Basic computer knowledge, cycling skills, and adequate independent means of livelihood (undertakings to be provided at the time of joining).

2. Age Limit (As of 21 September 2026)

  • Minimum Age: 18 years
  • Maximum Age: 40 years

Age Relaxation:

  • SC / ST: 5 years
  • OBC: 3 years
  • PwBD: 10 years (PwBD + OBC: 13 years, PwBD + SC/ST: 15 years)
  • EWS: No age relaxation

Pay Scale / Salary (TRCA)

Gramin Dak Sevaks receive a Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) along with applicable Dearness Allowance (DA).

Selection Process

The selection for India Post GDS is carried out through an automated system-generated merit list:

  1. 10th Class Marks Merit List: No written test or interview will be conducted. Selection is based purely on the aggregate percentage or CGPA obtained in Class 10.
  2. Grade/CGPA Conversion: Where grades/CGPA are awarded, a multiplication factor of 9.5 will be applied to convert them into percentages.
  3. Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for physical document verification by the Divisional/Unit Head before final appointment.

  1. Complete One-Time Registration (OTR): 31 Aug to 19 Sep 2026.
    Visit the official portal at indiapost.gov.in/gdsonlineengagement. Register with your basic details, mobile number, email ID, and generate your Registration Number.
  2. Fill Online Application Form: 02 Sep to 21 Sep 2026.
    Log in using your Registration ID. Enter personal details, educational qualifications, and select your preferred Circle/Division and post choices.
  3. Pay Application Fee:
    Pay the required fee of โ‚น100 online (if applicable). Female, SC, ST, PwBD, and Transwomen candidates can skip this step.
  4. Upload Documents & Submit:
    Upload a recent photograph and signature in the prescribed format. Preview the application form carefully and submit it before 21 September 2026 (17:00 hrs). Print the final acknowledgment copy for future reference.
