UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination (CGSE) 2027: Apply Online for 127 Posts
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially released the notification for the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination (CGSE), 2027 (Advt. No. 01/2027-GEOL). UPSC is inviting online applications to fill 127 tentative vacancies for Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ positions in the Geological Survey of India (GSI) (Ministry of Mines) and the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) (Ministry of Jal Shakti).
Candidates possessing a Master’s degree in Geology, Geophysics, Chemistry, or Hydrogeology can apply online through the official UPSC portal.

Eligibility Criteria
1. Educational Qualifications (Master’s Degree Required)
- Geologist / Assistant Geologist / Scientist ‘B’ (Hydrogeology): Master’s degree in Geology, Applied Geology, Geo-Exploration, Mineral Exploration, Engineering Geology, Marine Geology, Earth Science & Resource Management, Oceanography, Petroleum Geosciences, Geochemistry, or Hydrogeology.
- Geophysicist / Assistant Geophysicist / Scientist ‘B’ (Geophysics): M.Sc. in Physics, Applied Physics, Geophysics, Exploration Geophysics, Applied Geophysics, or Marine Geophysics.
- Chemist / Assistant Chemist / Scientist ‘B’ (Chemical): M.Sc. in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Hydro-Chemistry, or Industrial Chemistry.
Note: Final year postgraduate students awaiting their results are also eligible to apply for the Preliminary Exam.
2. Age Limit (As on January 01, 2027)
- Minimum Age: 21 Years
- Maximum Age: 32 Years (Candidate must be born between Jan 02, 1995, and Jan 01, 2006)
- Age Relaxations:
- SC / ST: Up to 5 years
- OBC (NCL): Up to 3 years
- PwBD: Up to 10 years
- GSI / CGWB Departmental Candidates: Up to 5 years
Selection Process & Exam Scheme
Selection is conducted across three successive stages:
- Stage I: Preliminary Examination (400 Marks)
- Computer-Based Objective Test (Two Papers per stream: General Studies + Discipline Subject).
- Scheduled for 10 January 2027.
- Stage II: Main Examination (600 Marks)
- Descriptive/Conventional Papers across three stream-specific subject papers.
- Scheduled for 19 & 20 June 2027.
- Stage III: Personality Test / Interview (200 Marks)
- Assessment of intellectual caliber, field suitability, and domain leadership.

How to Apply for UPSC CGSE 2027
1.Complete One Time Registration (OTR):
Visit the official UPSC online application portal (upsconline.nic.in) and complete the OTR profile if you have not registered previously.
2.Fill Common Application Form:
Log in using your OTR credentials and fill in your basic personal and educational details.
3.Select CGSE 2027 Module & Exam Centre:
Navigate to the active examination link for Combined Geo-Scientist Exam 2027. Choose your preferred Preliminary Examination venue (allocated on a first-apply, first-allot basis).
4.Pay Fee & Upload Documents:
Pay the application fee of ₹200 (if applicable) and upload required documents, live photograph, and signature as per prescribed specifications.
5.Submit Application:
Verify all filled details and submit the application form before 22 September 2026 (6:00 PM). Print out a copy for future reference.
