The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Policy Division, New Delhi, has officially released the recruitment notification for the engagement of Special Public Prosecutors (SPPs) on a panel basis. This drive aims to select eligible advocates to conduct trials of Lokpal-referred CBI cases pending before the Special Judge, CBI courts across multiple locations.

Trial Court Locations

The CBI is forming panels for four specific locations under identical eligibility and service terms:

  • Special Judge, CBI Court – Lucknow
  • Special Judge, CBI Court – Jabalpur
  • Special Judge, CBI Court – Ghaziabad
  • Special Judge, CBI Court – Coimbatore

(Note: CBI is building a panel of advocates rather than recruiting for a fixed count of traditional vacancies.)

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification & Standing

  1. Degree: Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a recognized university.
  2. Bar Council Enrollment: Valid Enrollment Certificate as an Advocate with the Bar Council.
  3. Experience: A minimum standing of 10 years as a practicing Advocate at the Bar.
  4. Relevant Subject Experience:
    • Proven track record handling criminal matters in Sessions Courts.
    • Mandatory Pre-Condition: Experience in conducting trials of cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

Stationing & Travel Terms

  • Candidates must be stationed at the location of the concerned Court (Lucknow, Jabalpur, Ghaziabad, or Coimbatore).
  • No Travelling Allowance (TA) or reimbursement of travel expenses will be admissible for attending court proceedings.

Remuneration / Professional Fee

The professional fee and terms of engagement for the selected Special Public Prosecutors will be governed by the terms specified in DoPT File No. 225/19/2023-AVD-II dated 08.04.2024, as approved by the Government of India.

Selection Process

The selection for the CBI Special Public Prosecutor panel involves a multi-stage review:

  1. Shortlisting: Submitted applications, along with prescribed proformas and details of cases handled, will be screened.
  2. Interaction: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a direct interaction with the CBI selection board.
  3. Formal Approval: Final engagement is subject to necessary approvals from DoPT/CBI, the Director of CBI, and the Learned Attorney General of India.

Required Documents & Application Details

Applicants must complete the online proforma accurately and keep the following details ready:

  • Educational Qualification Certificates (LLB degree & transcripts).
  • Bar Council Enrollment Certificate.
  • Proof of 10+ years of Bar experience.
  • Summary of major criminal cases handled (highlighting Sessions Court proceedings).
  • Details of cases conducted under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
  • Record of achievements, current workload, and disclosure of existing positions (e.g., Panel Lawyer, Standing Counsel, or Legal Advisor for any State or Central Government bodies).
  • Unconditional consent to abide by the terms and conditions set by the Government of India.
